SELECTING AND SPECIFYING THE PRODUCT
1 Product Description and Suitable Applications

With Sealtec's expertise in waterproof membrane systems and our technical partnership with international membrane manufacturers and suppliers Henkel Polybit Industries Ltd, the Bitustick Self Adhesive Membrane System was developed for:
- Waterproofing structures in contact with earth (horizontal & vertical)
- Waterproofing internal wet areas (e.g. kitchens, laundries, bathrooms etc)
Bitustick is suitable for application to concrete, plywood, fibre cement and bituminous surfaces –see Substrate Requirements and Compatibility for full details.

Sealtec Waterproofing Systems are a complete membrane solution, supported by a range of specialty products to provide assurance and security against the penetration of water in any form.
With the fleece back membranes in this system, it makes direct stick tiling easy and affordable.
The Bitustick Self Adhesive Membrane System consists of polymer modified bitumen membranes cross laminated onto either tough HDPE film, polyester fleece or polypropylene fleece on one side and a silicone release film on the other side, giving the complete system excellent tensile strength, elongation, and tear resistance for superior durability.
The fleece back membranes all have a selvedge on one side of the membrane to give bitumen to bitumen contact on overlaps, thus restricting water penetration through the laps.
Sealtec has incorporated Bitustick TS tape under flashings and extra internal external corner gusseting in critical areas to be applied as part of the system.
Sealtec specify all ancillary products to be used as part of the Bitustick Self Adhesive Membrane System for ease of design and application.

This system consists of one layer of Bitustick XL self adhesive polymer modified bitumen membrane; applied directly to a primed concrete or concrete block substrate.

This system creates a plain white polyester / polypropylene fibre finish membrane system totalling 2mm – 3.5mm in thickness.
On completion this system can be tiled over. |
This system creates a plain finish membrane system totalling 1.6mm – 2.0mm in thickness.
On completion this system must be protected with Sealtec Star Drain. |

- Bitustick XL 1.6mm self adhesive polymer modified bituminous, waterproofing sheet membrane, cross laminated onto a tough HDPE film on one side and a silicone release film on the other side.
- Bitustick R, R250, R400 self adhesive blended polymer modified bituminous, waterproofing sheet membranes, cross laminated onto a tough polyester fleece on one side and a silicone release film on the other side.
Bitustick R is 2.0mm thick, Bitustick R250 is 2.3mm thick and Bitustick R400 is 3.5mm thick.

- SealPRO Backing Rod polyethylene foam backing rod in various sizes ranging from 5mm – 50mm.

3 Limitations
Limitations for this product are as listed below:
- Not to be used in areas that would be exposed to UV radiation.
- Not to be used in areas subject to negative hydrostatic pressure.
- Not to be applied to glass, perspex, and plastic or glazed surfaces.
- Tiles are not to be fixed directly to the membrane.

- Not to be used as a trafficable surface.
- Not to be used in areas where solvent or petroleum based products may be spilled.
- Finish coatings over Bitustick XL plain HDPE finish membrane should be specifically designed for the purpose and be solvent free.

Following are weather limitations that will greatly affect the application of this product:
- Do not apply to areas when rain is imminent.
|
- Do not apply when surface temperature is below 5 degrees Celsius or above 35 degrees Celsius.
|
4 Substrate Requirements
Substrates suitable for application of the Bitustick system are:
- Concrete, concrete block, render and masonry.
- Wet area timber sheeting and external grade plywood.
|
- Fibre cement sheeting, plasterboard and structural sheeting.
- Bituminous membranes and bitumen surfaces.
|

5 Incompatibility with other Building Materials
- Not to be used in areas where solvent or petroleum based products may be spilled.
- Not to be applied to glass, perspex, and plastic or glazed surfaces.

Warranty
NZBC Compliance
When installed according to the manufacturer’s instructions, the Bitustick Self Adhesive Membrane System will meet the Durability performance requirements of NZBC B2.3.1(b) being 15 years and the External Moisture performance requirement of E2.3.2.
When the Bitustick Self Adhesive Membrane system is used as a Tanking Membrane and installed according to the manufacturer’s instructions, the system will meet the Durability performance requirement of NZBC B2.3.1(a) being the life of the building being not less than 50 years.

Methods used for verifying compliance with the relevant performances of the New Zealand Building Code, include Testing and Assessment by a laboratory, Ease of Installation assessment, Assessment of data provided by the manufacturer, and the In-service history overseas and in New Zealand.
